My wife and I headed to Huntsville, Ontario for the weekend on a mini adventure. We spent a couple of hours hiking in Algonquin Park this afternoon and then drove back to our hotel in Huntsville. All day it had been very cloudy and I did not think there was going to be much of a chance of a sunset. However about 1 hour before official sunset the clouds parted and by the time the sun went down the sky lit up and we had a beautiful sunset!

Early this morning I visited Grindstone Marsh. This area was not known to me, although it is right beside Hendrie Valley and part of the Royal Botanical Gardens which I have been to lots of times. My thanks to Dan Copeland for meeting me this morning and showing me the marsh! This Bald Eagle was sitting in a tree when I first arrived. When we tried to get closer and a better angle on him, he took off. However a short time later we saw him flying around. I managed to get a couple of shots of him in flight.

This afternoon after a great lunch with my wife in Oakville, I drove back along Lakeshore Avenue and into Burlington. I stopped at Spencer Smith Park in downtown Burlington. For a few years now they have been building a new pier and it is finally completed. It is quite modern looking. In addition they are also setting up for Canada’s largest Ribfest this coming long weekend. The shot below is from the edge of the water near the new pier looking towards Hamilton. It was a very foggy day and the Skyway Bridge was just visible in the distance.

This afternoon on my home from working in Toronto I drove along Lakeshore Road to avoid some of the traffic chaos on the Gardner / QEW. I stopped at the Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens in Port Credit. The sky was getting dark and rain was starting. I hurried down to the waterfront and captured this shot of 3 swans mingling with a bunch of ducks. (I am sure that is the scientific name for a group of them!)
