Kaprun Castle is located in the municipality of Kaprun in the state of Salzburg, Austria. We stayed in a hotel very close to it and I was up early the next morning to go and photograph it. The castle was believed to have been built in the 12th century by the noble family of the Counts of Falkenstein.
I had been keeping my eyes open for this kind of scene for quite some time, but not being the driver, I was out of luck on several occasions. However we finally did stop outside of this small village and the scene was just breathtaking!
While I was in Austria and during our travels we ventured into Germany and visited the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. It is a 19th century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hilltop above the village of Hohenschwangau. It was built for King Ludwig II in order for him to withdraw from public life. 7 weeks after his death in 1886, it opened to the public.
