Digital Photography for Beginners

Want to learn what all those buttons on your new camera do?

Aperture…ISO…Shutter Speed…DOF…ugh! What is all that stuff?

Come and join me as I teach a fun and easy to follow beginner course to digital photography.

The course is designed to give you maximum time in the field rather than sitting in a hard chair in a classroom all day needing vast quantities of coffee to keep awake.

We will cover all of the basics, make sure you understand your camera and then get out and go shoot! ‘Cause that is what it is all about! 🙂

The course will start at my home in Hamilton and then we will go out in the field. Depending on weather the shooting location(s) can vary from natural to urban.

What do you need to bring?

Your camera, lenses and accessories and the manual for your camera. Make sure your batteries are charged!

Tripod. (not a necessity, but if you have one, bring it)

Good hiking shoes and appropriate clothing for being outside in almost any kind of weather.

You! And a willingness to learn and have fun!

Next Course – TBA

9am to 5pm with a 1 hour lunch. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or there are several places nearby.

Maximum class size is 15 people

The cost is $75 per person and MUST be paid up front by e-mail transfer only. I can accept cash, but only if you arrange to get it to me before the class. I cannot accept PayPal. Please e-mail the payment to me at:

And as with all of courses, there are no refunds if you fail to show for the class.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at the same e-mail.

  1. I attended this course on November 1, 2014. If you are new to photography you should look into attending this course when Craig offers it. Some people think they can teach, but have trouble with conveying information to the students. Not Craig. Craig is a very patient man and is able to explain basic photography in a way that you understand. He doesn’t care if your have a point and shoot camera or a $6000 DSLR. All Craig is concerned about is that you understand the basic concepts of photography so you can apply it to your camera. His goal is to have everyone enjoy photography like he does. After lunch we headed out to a local waterfall to apply what we learned in the morning. Craig gave us a brief lesson at the falls before we headed in. He made sure everyone was comfortable with their cameras. He showed us some composition tips and emphasized DOF while shooting. When someone needed assistance, Craig was there to help. With his experience you were back to shooting pics in no time. I really enjoyed this day and it was because of Craig and the other students in the class. Thanks again Craig.
