Life Through The Lens – Part II – August 31 Image

I spent a couple of hours at Grindstone Marsh around lunch time today. There were 2 Ospreys hanging around, but one was sitting in a tree on the other side of the marsh and was not interested in flying about. This one however was very much looking for lunch. Several times he extended his talons and looked to have spotted a tasty fish in the marsh, only to turn and fly off.

On the way through Goderich today and home, I stopped by an old building I had noticed on previous trips. The building looks to be deserted. However there is this awesome red door leading into the building. I just love this paint peeling, abstract kind of look.

Today, our last full day at the cottage, we headed south to Grand Bend. We spent a bit of time wandering around the popular beach town and then headed slowly back north. We stopped in the town of Bayfield. I wandered down to the beach and noticed this boat wreck about 120m off the shore. I did some searching and found out that in the 1970’s this wreck used to be a fire tug and was used on the Great Lakes for many years. It was named the Linda Hindman by the Hindman family out of Owen Sound and used for their lumber business. It was scuttled to create a breakwall but never really served that purpose.

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky”.

Rabindranath Tagore

And wow did they ever! What an amazing sky! Nuff said..

After quantities of coffee this morning we headed out for a drive. I picked some back roads and found some abandoned barns and a pretty church. The sky was full of big clouds which added lots of drama to the images. At lunch we stopped in the town of Kincardine and sat near the lake.

This evening was once again beautiful on Lake Huron. As the sun was setting there were lots of gaps in the clouds and for a little while it looked as if they may disappear giving us a chance at another beautiful night sky of stars. However shortly after sunset, the clouds all moved back in again.

Today we spent the day driving north and stopping in some of the small towns all the way to Tobermory. When we arrived in Tobermory we took a short Zodiac cruise out to look at some old shipwrecks and then to FlowerPot Island. On our way back to our rental cottage I spotted these old, deserted barns and house. I decided they would be perfect for some night sky shots! While we were watching sunset from our beach deck Kim took a shot of yours truly using my phone. Since it was pretty much dark out by then, the shot is very noisy, but we both really like the coloured noise!

It was another beautiful day along the shores of Lake Huron! Although it was cloudy most of the day, we did not get any rain and the sunset was yet again wonderful! And similar to last night, much of the cloud cover disappeared and we had zillions of stars!

My wife and I are spending a week on holidays at a rental cottage along the shores of Lake Huron. We arrived late this afternoon and the cottage we are renting is great! We had a bonfire and watched the sun go down. Beautiful! 🙂

Late this afternoon after a crazy day of work and running around I finally had a chance to sit out on my back deck with a beer and listen to all of the birds in the trees behind us enjoying their Friday afternoon. These 2 Yellow Finches were hanging around my neighbours feeder. It almost looks as if one is telling the other one off!

Have a great weekend all! 🙂YellowFinches_3334
