The Compositions of Mother Nature

For the most part, I am not a “rules” kind of photographer. Could care less about them to be honest. Whatever makes me happy I shoot and I process. I don’t care if the image is technically perfect or it falls within the rule of thirds or any of the other so called rules. But when Mother Nature creates these beautiful compositions and they just happen to cover basically ever composition, lets call them “guidelines” out there well who am I to argue! ๐Ÿ™‚

My last day in the Canadian Rockies was as spectacular as all of the previous days. On our way out of Banff National Park, we stopped at one of my favourite spots, Vermillion Lakes. The clouds over Mount Rundle were awesome!

Last evening I ventured out to Banff National Park and the Vermillion Lakes, one of my most favorite spots when I am working in Calgary and have limited time to spend in the Rockies. The light last evening was absolutely beautiful!

It was a beautiful early evening in Banff National Park, but then the rains moved in about 1 hour before official sunset. I drove between Lake Minnewanka and the Vermilion Lakes to capture the amazing skies at both locations.

Last evening after work I drove out to Banff National Park and the Vermilion Lakes. While sunset was not as spectacular as I have seen it, it still lit up Mount Rundle a bit! ๐Ÿ™‚

Late this afternoon I was in Banff for a quick visit. One of my stops is always the Vermilion Lakes right outside of the town of Banff. These lakes always provide a great foreground for the beautiful Mount Rundle in the distance. Today was no exception as I found a piece of open water right at the edge of one of the lakes. However my perfect reflection was difficult to achieve as I was suffering from a unusual ailment of “Muskrat Interruptus”. This little Muskrat was constantly swimming back and forth in the small open water and carrying pieces of grass. After a while I think he was playing a game with me as he would wait until his last ripples from his previous swim were almost gone and then off he would go again! ๐Ÿ™‚

This afternoon after work I once again drove out to the Rockies. I really never seem to be able to get enough of them! I spent a couple of hours near Two Jack Lake about 10km’s outside of Banff. During that time I saw a Bull Elk and a Coyote! From there I drove to Vermilion Lakes and then stopped at a trail / picnic area alongside Highway 1 and took a shot of the beautiful sunset. I hope you enjoy the images!
