After a few hours of classroom discussion this evening our group headed out to a location barely seconds from the hotel. We already were aware that this evening was quite cloudy and the Northern Lights were probably not going to show up. However the next 2 evenings we have a much better chance as the forecasts are calling for clear skies. This evening in minus 39 temperatures before adding in the wind chill, the emphasis was on being able to focus in the dark and being able to work with your camera in the extreme cold. A short time after arriving at the frozen lake, I happened to look up into the sky and noticed at first one band and then a 2nd band of green light across the sky. The lights did show up, however very briefly.
